The conservation of a flag for Museum Vlaardingen >>>

For the recently opened Museum Vlaardingen I sewed a lot of meters to conserve a large flag. The flag - a kind of price for selling the best hearing - is made of woolen cloth, the stripes and logo are printed. Besides a few tiny moth holes, the condition is fine. Exhibiting large flags is often a problem since textile is fragile and needs support the whole time. A ridged plate, measuring 1 x 3 meters, was covered with sealing materials, fibre fill and black cotton. The flag was mounted on the plate with special conservation stitches and silk treads, silk filaments and Tetex. The flag is presented at an angle to reduce tension.
