Costume display for Museum Vlaardingen >>>
For the new display of the costumes of the Museum Vlaardingen, colleague textile conservator Daphne Reijs and I made bespoke mannequins. Daphne executed most of the hands-on work, the preparations and measurements were part of my job. Costumes from the days bygone have different shapes and bodies were moulded with corsets. Museum costumes therefore can not me displayed on contemporary mannequins. All measurements of the clothing were carefully taken and modern dress forms were adapted by cutting parts away or with stuffing at the right places. The dress forms were covered with protective materials, fibre fill and a black cotton jersey.
